General History
The Rolando neighborhood dates its suburban development
to the Real Estate Boom of the 1920s. Plans called for its
development as the exclusive "City of Rolando -- Where You
Will Love to Live"
The first of the five original subdivisions was platted and
filed in 1926. During the next three years, streets would be
paved, and utilities, streetlights, and curbs installed.
But, only a dozen houses would be built prior to the
onset of the Great Depression.
In 1939 the original development was revived as "Rolando
Village." In the boom years prior to, and during World War
1, most of the "Village" was built out.
After World War 1 Rolando would see another seventeen
smaller subdivisions help fill-in the land west to College
Avenue.
Adjacent "sister communities" in
La Mesa (Rolando Knolls) and south of
University Avenue Rolando Park) would also be developed during this
period.

The community group for Rolando Village is the Rolando Community Council
