MISSION STATEMENT:
We are a group of residents united in our
efforts to preserve the character of residential neighborhoods
surrounding colleges and universities by halting the proliferation of
for-profit conversions into so-called "mini-dorms," beginning with El
Cerrito, then expanding to other similarly situated neighborhoods in San
Diego.
GOALS:
Our short-term goal is to secure a
moratorium on further conversion of single-family residences into
multi-bedroom houses that could be used as rentals until we can get the
building and land use codes permanently changed to ban such conversions
and the creation of "mini-dorms" in residential neighborhoods. We will
then investigate ways to change state laws to encourage colleges and
universities state-wide to provide adequate housing if they expand their
admissions so the surrounding neighborhoods do not have to absorb the
increased college population. We also plan to coordinate with other
neighborhoods in San Diego who are impacted by this issue. |
