The El Cerrito Classic Homes Tour

The College Neighborhoods Foundation with co-sponsor Stephen Seus of Coldwell Banker Real Estate are proud to announce on Saturday, May 1st they will present our annual Spring Classic homes tour. This years-gala event features seven fabulous homes in the historical El Cerrito neighborhood of east San Diego. The name El Cerrito literally means, " The Little Hill", and although the hill maybe small, the views of the city high-rises, ocean and canyons from many of the homes in the neighborhood are spectacular.

One of the little known secrets of the El Cerrito neighborhood is its early development. Initially orange and lemon orchards, development of these historic home tracts began in the early 1920’s, before the Great Depression. As the City of San Diego’s growth spread east, El Cerrito's first small development tracts and new homes were constructed. Lot sizes and homes were larger than previous city developments. Many of the homes on this year’s tour have large, usable yards and fabulous gardens. The perfume of jasmine and mock orange from several gardens will permeate throughout this springs tour.

During the tour of these seven incredible homes, noted historian Jim Newland will unveil the history for each home, plus outline their unique architectural designs and features. These custom homes offer a look into a variety of past eras, including spacious Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean revival and California ranch styles. Some homes feature period-piece furniture and kitchen appliances from the 1930’s and 40’s and some homes boast spectacular hand-painted murals.

Don’t miss this years-gala Spring historical home tour of the El Cerrito neighborhood. Tickets to this exclusive tour are limited and are available only through the College Neighborhoods Foundation ("CNF"). Call CNF immediately to reserve tickets at Tel 619 265-8545.
