College Neighborhoods Foundation (CNF)
Mission
CNF’s Mission is to help enhance the quality of life and revitalize business in the College Neighborhoods.
History
In 1997, a group of community volunteers desired to improve their
neighborhood, but lacked the requirements to procure charitable
nonprofit grants. The volunteers united to create a charitable nonprofit
with the goal to provide support services to any individual or group who
had a constructive, workable idea, and the willingness to initiate a
project which provided public benefit through use of this charitable
nonprofit status. The volunteers invited other community members with
specific talents to join the board and further develop the organization
known today as the College Neighborhoods Foundation (CNF).
CNF Board
CNF board members are active community volunteers who share love of, and
pride in, the College Neighborhoods. These community members bring an expertise in one or more
of the following fields: marketing, law, grant writing, project management, real estate,
information technology, economic and/or community development, fund raising, finance, and
education. The board members not only volunteer their time and expertise, but are expected to
contribute to the financial health of the nonprofit. The board meets at least once a month and is
united in the desire to see the College Neighborhoods grow into an economically vibrant, culturally
dynamic, socially responsible, and academically fulfilling desired destination for
residents and commerce.

Working with the Community

and groups and therefore works to support, not duplicate, existing community efforts.
CNF has a proud history of closely supporting local community and
business groups including:
College Area Community Council
Rolando Community Council
Oak Park Community Council
El Cerrito Community Council
Rolando Park Community Council
Darnell Community Council
San Diego State University
College Area Business District
CNF has also worked in cooperation with other outstanding nonprofits and
other fine organizations including:
San Diego Foundation
Commission for Arts & Culture
City of San Diego
Wal-Mart
CNF Projects
The College Neighborhoods Foundation develops and supports projects
which enhance our community and benefit the public good. In addition to a variety of their
own projects, some of the outside projects CNF considers for (co)sponsorship rely upon CNF’s
501(c)(3) nonprofit status, fiscal management, or project management skills.
One of CNF’s first efforts was to bring positive press to the College
Neighborhoods. Through a variety of articles, the College Neighborhoods began to see a change in the way
the neighborhoods perceived themselves, and the way the larger San Diego community viewed
the College Neighborhoods.
