Candidates Forum at SDSU

CACC, SDSU, & Associated Students to Host
SD City Council District 7 Candidates Forum
| The CACC, SDSU and SDSU Associated Students will be co-hosting a Candidates Forum for the
San Diego City Council District 7 on Tuesday, May 6 from 6:30 to 8
P.M. |
This forum is planned as a service to the
community and offers an opportunity hear the candidates to
address issues of concern to the local community, SDSU staff and
students. The community, faculty, staff, and students are
strongly encouraged to attend. Questions for the
candidates are encouraged from the audience. Please plan to
arrive by 6:15 to submit questions in writing. Potential sample
questions are provided below.The candidates in this nonpartisan race are
April Boling,
Bill Daniel,
Marti Emerald, and
David Tos. All four candidates’ attendance at the forum is confirmed.
The current councilmember, Jim Madaffer is termed out.
The moderator will be
Dr. Ronald King, Chair of the SDSU Department of Political
Science.
The format of the evening will be question
and answer based around local issues after each candidates has made a
brief opening statement. |

The forum will be held in the Auditorium of the Aztec Athletic Center on 55th
Street, on the west side of the street across from Cox Arena. Free
parking will be available in Parking Structure 5 on 55th St.

The mayoral
candidates have agreed to regional debates and CACC members will have
access to tickets to the KUSI Eastern Area Communities Mayoral Forum on
Thursday, May 22 from 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Church of Nazarene, 4750
Mission Gorge Place.
- What do you see as the number one issue in the 7th District and what
are your plans to address it?
- What in the history of your service to the community distinguishes you
from your opponents?
- What in the history of your service to the community says you can
make the tough decisions and not just the popular ones?
- What is your stance on Proposition A? How would you vote? Yes or no?
- What is your stance on Proposition B? How would you vote? Yes or no?
- What is your stance on Proposition C? How would you vote? Yes or no?
- What is your stance on Proposition 98? How would you vote? Yes or no?
- What is your stance on Proposition 99? How would you vote? Yes or no?
- What are your concerns with "The Strong Mayor" form a government?
- What is your position on an independent City Auditor?
- What is your position on the roll of the City Attorney?
- Is the mayor doing enough to ensure our financial stability?
- If you would shake up City Hall specifically where would that be?
- What are your views on redevelopment and specifically growth?
- What is the need for low waged earners in San Diego and how would you
balance this with controlling illegal immigration?
- Would you if elected be more interested in supporting community oriented
development or developer supported development?
- Should the mayor have been more aware of his problems within
Developmental Service prior to the Sunroad debacle or is the system working
as desired?
- SDSU’s growth and its effect on the local community is complex issue,
briefly what will you do about this issue?
- How will you improve relations between the city of San Diego, SDSU
and local community?
- Will you be willing to put pressure on the police department and city
attorney’s office to stop the sale of illegal drug paraphernalia in the
College Area smoke shops?
